Picking Figs at Backyard Bounty Farm

Our Fig Preserves are made in small batches with local figs from Melanie Plies at Backyard Bounty Farm and Mike Sump at Singer Hill Gardens. We pick the figs (yes, in some cases we pick them ourselves!) at the peak of season and make the preserves with lemon slices, candied ginger, and pure cane sugar.

Fig preserves is one of the most versatile of our products – it can be served as part of an appetizer or on a charcuterie plate, paired with cheeses or meats (with braunschweiger is our chef’s favorite!), and it is even well suited with dessert, warmed and poured over ice cream.

It’s fantastic with goat cheese on crostini, on roasted winter squash, or on fresh biscuits or toast. A spoonful added to your morning oatmeal is divine – as well as adding it to the top of a pork loin or chop just before finishing cooking.

We hope to start selling our preserves in January of 2010. Check back to see where you can buy this tasty treat!
